Steven Jackson - In what shouldn't be a surprise to anyone, Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo told The Sporting News that RB Steven Jackson is the headliner at the position he feels best about heading into training camp. "I think he's one of the premier backs in the league," Spagnuolo said of Jackson. "A lot of guys showed tremendous commitment and leadership during the offseason workouts, but he stuck out." ( 7/2/2009 )
Fantasy Analysis: While this might be something you'd expect to hear, it is good to know that Jackson is healthy and hopeful for a big rebound in 2009. Furthermore, the Rams added bulk to their offensive line to help clear the path for Jackson, and they also added fullback Mike Karney to lead the way. With a very underwhelming corps of receivers, Jackson is essentially the entire offense in St. Louis. Health is an issue with him -- he's missed four games in each of the last two seasons -- but there's no question that he's a fabulous Fantasy running back when healthy. Jackson is a No. 1 option worth a first-round pick in all drafts this summer.

Eli Manning - The New York Post reports the Giants are counting on QB Eli Manning to play better this season with the lack of talent from the receiving corps. "We're going to put more of the onus on him," GM Jerry Reese said. That's something Manning is looking forward to. "I think you got a quarterback going into his sixth year and ... some young receivers," Manning said. "It's my job to make sure those guys are on the same page and my job to be a leader and take control of the offense and the passing game. As a quarterback you're always going to be a leader, but now I'm one of the older guys on the offense." ( 7/1/2009 )
Fantasy Analysis: Plaxico Burress and Amani Toomer are gone, and the replacements as starters are Hixon and Steve Smith, with Sinorice Moss, Mario Manningham and rookies Hakeem Nicks and Ramses Barden comprising a glaringly unproven receiver corps. "It doesn't put me in an awkward situation by any means," Manning said. "When you lose some veteran guys, Plaxico and Amani, guys who've been around, now it's a younger receiver corps there's more put on the quarterback. You got to make your players better." We think Manning can make those wideouts better, but he still remains a No. 2 Fantasy QB. Plan on taking him as one of the top backups with a mid-round pick.

LenDale White - White has vowed to report to training camp under 230 pounds, the Nashville Tennessean reports. ( 7/2/2009 )
Fantasy Analysis: White tipped the scales at 260 pounds last year, and has made a concerted effort to get into and stay in shape this offseason. He's undoubtedly motivated considering he's entering a contract year, so we tend to believe him when he says he'll report to camp under 230 pounds. What remains to be seen is if it will cost him some of his power. He received the most goal-line carries in the NFL last year, and his value is dependent on being able to convert those opportunities into points.

Santonio Holmes - The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review visited Steelers WR Santonio Holmes at his offseason workout facility in Orlando and found a bulked-up Super Bowl MVP. Holmes hit his target weight of 201 pounds after adding extra muscle to his upper body this offseason. Holmes played at 190 last season and entered the league weighing less than that. "I look at it as if I have to be a complete receiver," said Holmes. "I've got to be physical, I've got to still continue with my speed, I've got to have the great conditioning to last 16 games, play throughout the playoffs and be able to put in about 60-70 plays every week. ... I'm looking forward to coming to (training) camp around this weight, because I know I'll probably shed about eight-to-10 pounds throughout camp. I'll play at about 195 for the season. I'll still have my strength, but losing the weight." ( 7/1/2009 )
Fantasy Analysis: The addition of muscle should help Holmes break an extra tackle or two along the way this season, and it seems like he's ready to grow his game after winning the MVP award in Super Bowl XLIII. He has much to live up to as he didn't have a single 100-yard game in 2008 and has had back-to-back games with a touchdown just twice in his three-year career (once in '08). While he seems to own the Ravens in particular, he is very much a boom-or-bust receiver with potential to give you 70-80 yards with an occasional touchdown or three catches for 21 yards. While he finished the regular season with 55 catches for 821 yards (14.9 avg.) and five touchdowns, he's really nothing more than a middle- to low-end No. 2 receiver next year. Consider him in drafts between Rounds 6 and 7.

Bryant Johnson - Despite the Lions' trade for Dennis Northcutt, Johnson is expected to be the team's second receiver, according to the Detroit Free Press. ( 7/2/2009 )
Fantasy Analysis: Johnson will be a trendy sleeper pick this offseason due to his position opposite Calvin Johnson, but the quarterback situation in Detroit should temper expectations a bit. A motivated Daunte Culpepper could provide some solid play under center and Matthew Stafford has a cannon for an arm, but neither are close to being surefire bets to make their receivers, outside of Megatron, fantasy relevant.
